Ticehurst
and Flimwell Church of England Primary School is a ‘controlled’ school.
This means that although it was a church foundation it is controlled by
the Local Education Authority (East Sussex County Council), but the
school’s Board of Governors includes the Vicar and three ‘Foundation’
Governors who are appointed by the diocese on the recommendation of the
parish.
The school, which opened in 2004 and replaced the
Victorian Ticehurst school, has a strong Christian ethos; there is a
daily Christian based assembly and a weekly one taken by the Vicar or a
lay church member. Four or five school services are held each year in
Ticehurst church. The church connection is also reinforced by
decorations in the new building, including two wonderful murals. The
school welcomes pupils of all denominations and faiths and of none.
The old Flimwell school was bombed during the 2nd World War and did not reopen.
